How the accent wall calculator works
Drops across the width
An accent wall is the friendliest wallpaper project: drops = wall width รท roll width (14 ft รท 2.25 ft = 6.2 โ 7 drops), each cut to wall height plus repeat allowance. With 7 drops and one drop per roll, most accent walls take 5โ8 rolls โ small enough that buying margin is trivial and dye lots are a non-issue.
Start centered, not cornered
On a feature wall the pattern reads from the middle: pros start with a half-drop centered on the wall's midpoint so the focal pattern lands on the focal sightline (above the headboard, over the fireplace). Corners then receive the cut drops โ where trimming is least visible. Corner-start layouts push the pattern's seams to the wall's center, which is exactly wrong for a feature wall.
The edge details
- Trim outer corners last and wrap nothing around outside corners unless the paper is flexible vinyl โ inside corners: cut and restart plumb.
- Plug outlets before papering and cut drops around boxes with a razor from the center out.
- Photograph the finished wall with the dye-lot code โ future repair panels become findable.
